The
MMI Alumni Brigade is pleased to announce the establishment of the Robert
Peter Findlay Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship, established by a
generous gift from Mr. David Patrick Kelley, Class of 1973, is
dedicated to the memory of "Pete" Findlay. Pete passed away
unexpectedly in Birmingham January 30 2001.
Pete was a "six year"
cadet, rising from the rank of Private in 1967 to become a Cadet Colonel and
Brigade Commander of the MMI Corps of Cadets in 1973. He was active in almost
all of the cadet organizations, but he was proudest of his six year
affiliation with the White Knight Precision Drill Team. In his years in the
"Knights" he served as a squad member, member of the "Mod
Squad", Executive Officer and he culminated his tour with the
"Knights" as the Commander. He was the recipient of many academic
and military awards and decorations while he attended MMI.
The precise wording of the
scholarship is still being developed by an attorney, but the primary purpose
of the scholarship will be to provide financial aid to students desiring to
attend Marion Military Institute. The scholarship will be jointly administered
by Mr. Kelley and the MMI Alumni Battalion.
Your contributions to the
scholarship can be made now by contacting Mr. Bill Clement, Treasurer, MMI
Alumni Battalion, 2545 Dunmore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35226. Donations that are
received will be placed with the existing Certificate of Deposit that is
separate from MMI Alumni Battalion funds.
